SEND Coffee Evening

It can be hard being the parent of a child with additional needs. There's a lot to manage, a lot of forms, a lot of behaviours to understand, a lot of worry, sometimes... it just feels a lot. It can help to have others around you who are going through similar, to know you are not on your own, to know that there is help and support out there. Each month we'll be getting together and meeting up for coffee, for a chat, and we'll be bringing in guest speakers to support you in supporting your child too. There'll be plenty of opportunity to share knowledge, to share stories and to hopefully, have a laugh too! It would be so lovely to have you with us! 

This session we'll be hearing from Fiona, a session all around sensory integration and sensory needs! Here's her bio 

I have been qualified as an Occupational Therapist for 15 years . My experience includes 9 years working on the in-patient CAMHS units (Child and Adolescent Mental Health) and 4 years specialising in assessing and diagnosing neurodevelopmental conditions (mainly ADHD and ASD). I’ve also worked in the SEN schools and residential homes with children and young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities.

I am currently employed as a paediatric OT in the Children and Young People’s Occupational Therapy Service in North Manchester. I complete motor skills assessments and do lots of sensory integration work. We offer interventions that support children to manage their day to day activities such as dressing, using cutlery, functioning in the class room.

I have completed additional training in Sensory Integration and have completed the Level 1 SI course.
